Способ компактной записи вариантов возможных планов предприятия (фирмы) в виде совокупности векторов «затраты-выпуск» — точек многомерного пространства. Оно включает допустимые векторы «затрат-выпуска», т.е. те, которые могут оказаться реальными вариантами плана (в отличие от недопустимых, нереальных либо по ресурсам, либо по ассортименту выпускаемой продукции). Оно содержит также начало координат — это означает, что предприятие может вовсе не выпускать продукцию и не производить затрат. В эконометрических исследованиях применяется также понятие общеэкономического множества производственных возможностей, определяемое как сумма соответствующих множеств всех экономических объектов рассматриваемой экономической системы.
